AUDITION for the opportunes!
AUDITIONS FAQ:
What is the auditions process like?
First, choose a time to participate in our Preliminary Auditions (schedule to the right), and bring a verse and a chorus of a song of your choice! We will ask you to do a couple of vocal and pitch-matching exercises to better understand your range and vocal agility. The preliminary audition will only take about 5 minutes—nothing too daunting!
Then, there are a series of callbacks. If you get called back, we will give you excerpts of songs we have performed in the past and assess your ability to both sing solos and block (the "instrumentals" behind the soloist). Each night of callbacks is more competitive than the last, until the final night where we will ask you to sing an entire song of your choosing!
Can I audition for multiple groups?
Yes, most auditionees do audition for multiple a cappella groups! The groups will coordinate and make sure you get where you need to go, so don't worry about callbacks conflicting with each other. If you make it to Final Night for multiple groups, you will have the opportunity to rank the groups in order of preference.
What if I don't have any singing experience?
Everyone is welcome to audition, regardless of singing or musical experience!
What is the time commitment for being an Opportune?
The Opportunes rehearse 3 times a week for a total of 7 hours, with supplementary practice and additional performances and gigs. We also go on tours during Winter and Spring breaks. Rehearsals and tours are scheduled around the needs of our members, but attendance is mandatory; the Opportunes is a substantial commitment!
How will I know if I get called back?
This page will contain all callback information. Stay tuned and good luck!
